Portfolio Management

At Goodstein Wealth Management, we believe that modern portfolio theory is the best approach for long-term investing, but it is not always the optimal strategy in the short term. While major statistical outliers like the crashes of 2000 and 2008 may not be highly probable, they do occur. This is where our investment experts’ step in, serving as partners who understand the ever-changing investing landscape.

We believe it would be irresponsible for an advisor to refuse to adjust and prepare for these types of events. Therefore, we employ a different form of portfolio management known as "Core and Satellite." In this approach, the core portion of the portfolio follows traditional modern portfolio theory, maintaining a long-term strategy. Meanwhile, the smaller "satellite" portion is actively managed to respond to short-term market conditions driven by macroeconomic cycles and investor psychology.

Wall Street

Our strategy allows us to anticipate major downturns, step aside before a crash, and then be ready to re-enter the market to take advantage of newly undervalued stocks during a rebound. However, even with strategic planning, the market can be unpredictable. At times, our primary role is to help manage our clients' emotions, whether fear or greed, during periods of volatility.

By removing emotions from investing, we maintain a clear perspective that allows for better decision-making, regardless of market conditions. Our goal is to reduce overall portfolio volatility and improve performance compared to a straightforward "buy and hold" approach.
